I get bored with the same old. I canceled my Warhammer account about a year ago. I reactivated last week. Tier 4 was hopping fun. To be truthful, it was a series of books that I read over the last six weeks that whetted my Warhammer appetite. Vampire Wars, The Vampire Genevieve, and Gotrek and Felix all fed my waaagh! I wanted back in the game after what amounted to about 9 or more novels set in the Warhammer Universe. The story is a powerful force!
Free to Play Tier 1: Forever
It’s true. Go to the Warhammer Online site, and click on set up the account! That’s it. However, if you have a previously paid account, you need to get a new email address and create a new Warhammer account with that email. For some reason, it won’t let you T1 with your old accounts. T1 sees a lot of activity. I played my level six Witch Hunter (Sigmarine) on Volkmar, and the scenarios popped frequently. I played in the Nordland RVR lake for a couple of hours, and there was constant action. Granted, there are a lot of “twinkers” [i.e. players who use their big boy accounts to kit out their little guys in T1]. The only negative observation is that the ability to lock a free T1 player in T1 forever actually penalizes subscribers.
When I played Dark Age of Camelot, Mythic deployed a command called /noexp (or /noxp) – can’t remember exactly. However, what the command did was suspend the accrual of XP. This allowed you to lock into a PvP zone and keep a character there. As I recall, it was Molvik that everyone locked into – a PvP zone. Subscribers in Warhammer can not lock in an XP state. Paid subscriber T1 characters graduate from T1 when they hit level 12, and they can no longer play in the Tier 1 PvP lakes or scenarios. Doesn’t that exclusively encourage players to create free accounts if T1 PvP (which in my estimation is the most fun in the game) is what you are looking for?
First, let me praise Mythic and EA for this bold move. Second, let me advise the firm: introduce the NO XP command in the next patch. You will get a lot of subscribers back, and for those free accounts that want to keep their “twinks” in a particular Tier of PvP, they can do so. Allow us that choice. I was playing with a friend who canceled his account last month. He would continue to pay if he could lock down a T1, T2, or T3 character. It will better the game and bring people back.
Pay to Play: Why Not?
I hooked right back into my old guild, and we were off and running like I never left. The Rozenkreuntz Reapers are still very active on Volkmar. They are such a great group of people that I chose to re-sub. I played Land of the Dead with them last night. I still can’t believe how well Mythic captured the Warhammer Universe. It really is a high quality game. I thoroughly enjoy it, and I hope to see some of my friends back soon. I think any rumors or idle prattle about the demise of this game seem entirely premature. There still exists an amazing amount of enthusiasm and interest in the property.

Nice post. I do have a question if I may. How are the lag issues atm? Last time I logged, the lag was unbearable in oRvR.

It seems that they have fixed many of the lag issues as I’m hardly noticing any anymore when before I often had to turn down my video settings in large fights.
Over the last few patches there has been a lot of improvement in this aspect of the game.

Mythic has definitely slapped a few coats of polish on the game. I just re-subbed and am absolutely loving it. oRvR runs nonstop as well as PVE dungeon runs. Plus if you’re into scenarios – the new revamp has really given them a boost plus an incentive to run them.
I highly recommend anyone that was debating whether or not to come back to definitely give it a try.
For me anyway, the lag is non-existent.
