The Coming Beta Storm

There’s been a void as of late for the Beta Tracker column and it’s entirely my fault.  I’ve been working on revamping how I do the articles so their less about my opinion of things to come and more about the facts as they relate to each particular game.  One of the things I am currently working on are a standard set of questions I can use for each article and have them answered by the developers.  However, that is easier said than done.  So, as I continue to work on that, I thought it would be good to give you all a few articles to list out all the games in beta that I am currently keeping an eye on.

For the next few weeks I will list more titles from my index of games and provide you with some general information about each.  This should help to point you in the right direction to get more specific information about titles that interest you.  Once I get my questionnaire nailed down I will be able to provide game developer feedback you might find interesting and helpful.  So without further ado, enjoy the list.

Black Prophecy looks amazing.

Black Prophecy (Free to Play) — is a fast-paced 3D real-time combat space MMO with state of the art visuals. Both the Player-versus-Players combat and an exciting storyline in a rich universe are important aspects of the game.  As you can see from the screenshot provided here, the game looks absolutely beautiful.

State-of-the-art motion capture ensures a realistic feel.

Blade Wars (Free to Play) — is an authentic martial arts F2P MMO which allows players to customize their own fighting combos. Game developers used state-of-the-art motion capture to collect more than 99 authentic Kung Fu moves from a world class martial artist. These moves were then turned into individual animations that players can string together in-game to create their own complex combination.  This China based game is coming to the West and is currently in Open Beta.

Arr Matey!

Captains of Dark Tide — DarkTide is a pirate-slash-fantasy 3D Browser-based MMORPG for Mac and PC.   As of right now the servers are all down for Captains of Dark Tide as the company packs up its things and moves to a new location.  It appears ownership of this company has changed hands and the new owner has yet to be announced.  The game will be back online and into its beta as soon as the move is over.

Popular real-time strategy title breaks into the MMO genre.

Company of Heroes (Free to Play) – is a online action strategy game based upon the real-time strategy title by the same name.  Players can choose from six different combat doctrines, each with its own strengths and combat styles.  Customize your army and enter each conflict with your own unique set of battle-tested Heroes, unit upgrades, and devastating Commander Abilities. Become the ultimate military commander as you unlock new abilities with every conflict and build your army with every victory.

Literally control your enviroment in this original up and comer.

Dawntide — Dawntide is an innovative new free form MMOG being developed by Working as Intended, an independent studio based in Copenhagen, Denmark.   Players of Dawntide can create their own cities, even forming nations with their own army and armada. The game gives them the opportunity to create and enforce their own laws and establish government, as well as give other players the opportunity to break those laws and overthrow those governments – at their own risk.

Pick up vehicles and toss them at your enemies in this highly anticipated title.

DC Universe Online — DC Universe Online is the only next-generation massively multiplayer online action game that delivers unparalleled physics-powered combat set in the DC Universe. Pick up a car and throw it at your enemies, hurl garbage cans, swing sign posts, throw a sewer drain cover … players can literally use their surroundings for battle.  This genre-defining game puts the power of the DC Super Heroes and villains into the palm of your hands.

Go ahead and whet your appetite with this list of games in Beta and I will post another list soon.  Hopefully by providing a standard layout for these articles I can provide you with a ton of information directly from the developers who are making these anticipated games.  I think these articles will be a whole lot better with developer feedback on questions.  Also, if you feel like helping this process along and ensure the broadest scope of possible information, please don’t hesitate to provide questions you feel are important to ask.  Use the comment section below to add your two cents.

Thanks and see you in game.

  1. Is Black Prophecy an EVE style game? Seems like I remember you talking about that game before.

  2. I did an entire article on it. http://lagwar.com/home/archives/12318
