You Shall Not Pass…

Posted by Slurm On January - 9 - 2009

I really like Warhammer Online. I know my posts are sometimes filled with such ire that you might think otherwise. But, I wouldn’t be sitting at my computer writing about this subject matter if I didn’t care about it. If that was the case I’d be in politics. But, no, I seriously do love the game. There are just times when I have a hard time loving it. Seems that another one of those times are here again with the descision to actually RESRICT people from entering into a fortress seige. Are you KIDDING me??? Did they sit around at a meeting attempting to find the best solution to help the performance issues and this is what came out of it? I can’t see where this was a good idea.

Mythic made a game supposedly based around open RvR. Namely, fortress and city seiges. Now they will be restricting the number of people who can actually participate in such an event. Sure, this won’t be a problem for the lower tiers, but as a person who spends alot of time in open RvR, this is really discouraging. I was just getting excited last night after hitting 26. I’m on the latter half of T3 and was finally aware that, hey, im at that turn before the home stretch! But is there now a question whether to move on? Do I get into T4 and be relegated to capturing BO’s with a group of other lowbies while the 40’s go zerg the castle? Doesn’t appeal to me. Beyond that, do I finnaly get to 40 and have a dice roll chance to be able to enter a keep with the rest of the group? I am a healer after all, and if it turns out that I’m the only healer in one of the groups, won’t the rest of the group be a little mad when they find out i’ve been shot back to the warcamp? Oh, and if that doesn’t make sense I don’t know what does. You get teleported back to the warcamp?!?!? Can we have a virtual bouncer stand there with a velvet rope telling us we don’t look cool enough to get in as well? “But, my girlfriend is in there!”

The big kicker about this? Mythic implemented it as a test on a few servers and then after ONE DAY of testing (on a slow Wednesday no less) they decide it must be working great since the servers didn’t crash, and are now implementing it on all servers. Was there even any people getting kicked out to the warcamp during this? I’d have to say If I was on the server and got booted away from a keep seige, I’d be a little disgruntled.

NERD RAGE!!!

Mythic did say that this will be one of many changes in the upcomming weeks. So, maybe there’s hope. Please let there be hope.

I would rather see the collision detection go temporarily. I would think this would free up some of the pipeline for other bits of info. Or maybe seperate the open RvR areas (warcamps included) from the rest of the zones and make it so you have to zone into them as a seperate entity.

Some blogs are being nice to Mythic on this, merely asking for more details (which I think is due). I say this change completely goes against what Mythic had intended for the game to be. Wizards and Wenches says it’s duct tape, I’d say it’s a bandaid on a gash.

/rant off

As a side note, everyone go over to the Greenskin and give him motivation for nearing 40! GO SNAFFY GO!
