In case of emergency…

…kill this mob.

I was reading Syp of WAAAGH fame’s latest and greatest (although by the time this gets posted Syp will have 10 more posts out, HE’S A MACHINE!) and a thought, nay, a recollection came to me.

You see, Syp has more patience than most gamers. If the item is worth it, he can sit and camp a mob for days on end. I’ve had my fair share. In Everquest, I once camped a spot in High Pass Hold for 8 hours to get a book for my Druid. (bonus points if you can name it) I don’t mean camping and killing the mob until it dropped. No, just sat for 8 hours until the mob showed up. Yeah…I’ve got that kind of patience for games. Not so much for people oddly enough. I guess I expect too much out of them, whereas in games I can only expect results out of myself. I think I’m on a tangent…

I was thinking about WAR as a whole, and even thought a bit about WoW (shudder). I thought about how items are triggered to drop from mobs and the long hours some wait just for the lucky roll of dice to have the item come their way…or not. I don’t have the time that I used to. I have a family now and maybe get 2 hours a night for Slurm time. So certain things, like wards (bad!), may be out of my reach. But other things, like what Syp is after, should not be so restricted. Then it came to me.

This one is for the old school DAoC players. Remember one time drops?

One time drops were items that would fall from a named mob once (just as the name implies). If you rolled a new character and killed it again, it would drop for him. But, if you killed that same mob more than once on the same character, than the item would not drop. It’s a pretty simple concept, and even Mythic abandoned it in DAoC. As the expansions came out (curse you Trials of Atlantis!), this feature was used less. Why? Maybe I was the only one using it. Maybe there just wasn’t enough demand for it. I loved the concept though. You could tie it in with a story real easy. Maybe make it worth talking to NPC’s (who are not quest givers) to get clue’s as to where a one time item might drop. Someone at a bar could ramble on about how they lost their most prized gloves or the family axe.

So my question for you, the reader, is this:

Do you think Mythic should/could incorporate some One-Time Drops?
