[LW] Tell us a little bit about The Schism.
[Haeretic] The Schism started officially in Age of Conan. Many of us have played together between 5-10 years, including games such as Ultima Online, DAOC, EQ2, WoW, Shadowbane, etc.
[LW] How many members currently?
[Haeretic] We currently retain about 50 active players. Of these 50, 15 have come with us from other games.
[LW] What attracted you to WAR?
[Haeretic] Several of us were fortunate enough to play Warhammer Online beta and loved it! We enjoyed the RvR and tactical battles.
[LW] Can you give us a short description of how you feel the game has come along thus far?
[Haeretic] Honestly, the game is not the game I thought it would be in Beta. Too much of the RvR system depends on PVE elements and a VERY populous server. I think the changes made over the past month or two and the changes coming between now and this summer have a chance to turn the tide and make the game very successful.
[LW] Slayer or Choppa?
[Haeretic] Chosen! I already have a Chosen and Black Guard at level 40, I think a third would be overkill although both the new classes look great.
[LW] Are you excited about the recent 1.2 patch and the direction it is taking the game?
[Haeretic] There are many nice things coming in the patch. I’m hoping that the changes to zone control makes playing on a less than full server fun. I would hate to see the servers merged even further than they have been.
[LW] Any changes you feel should be made to RvR in order to make the experience even better?
[Haeretic] The RvR system is fun at times, who doesn’t love it when 2 large forces meet in the middle of a field or at a keep and duke it out? Or when you are able to fool your adversary with a nice tactical move to win against superior forces.
If I were in charge I would take out NPCs from Forts and Keeps and put in a Flag you have to control for a set amount of time. That said, the possibility of guilds being able to buy a select number of guards for keeps they control would be cool. I think too much of the RvR experience is directed at fighting NPCs, which at times makes sieges both boring and frustrating. I think the 1.2 changes will make things better as far as zone control.
[LW] PVE – Thoughts?
[Haeretic] By PVE I’m going to answer it as end game raiding. There is a definite lack of PVE content at end game, and the content currently in the game is buggy. We currently have 3 Lost Vale farm groups and I was able to complete my set.. that said, the fights are not that challenging in PVE compared to other games. Lost Vale is a very interesting experience and looks great, there just needs to be more places like that. My position, as an avid PVPer, is that you have to have enough PVE content in the game to keep people playing so you can kill them on the battlefield.
[LW] Whats your thoughts on the guild interface and tools in WAR?
[Haeretic] The guild interface and design in Warhammer Online is the best, by far, of any game ever on the market. Guild leveling is a great idea! and the built in calendar system is cool. There are some big bugs that I generally overlook but the ability to right-click and perform basic options like promote and assign standard bearers has always been hit or miss and I know I’ve kicked my fair share of people on accident (I’ve been forced to macro this).
[LW] Keep design, whats your thoughts on the current design of Keeps and Fortresses?
[Haeretic] Keeps look great, as do Fortresses. The ramps and choke points can be a pain when you are attacking but provide enough of benefit for defenders that NPCs do not really need to be there.
[LW] Are you enjoying the series of Live Events?
[Haeretic] The Live Events provide a nice distraction at times. There have been some that were frustrating but providing events that push people to fight is a great idea.
[LW] Have your guild member numbers stayed strong since the formation of the guild or has there been some low points due to server populations? And how is it now?
[Haeretic] We started very strong. We are a hardcore guild so losing a few players at points is common and expected, but we have lost more in this game due to a lack of end game content, than I would have expected. This has forced us to be very active within the community and schedule lots of fun guild events that keep people around longer than if they were in other guilds.
[LW] Any particular members of the guild who have went above and beyond to move the guild forward that you would like to give credit to in this spotlight?
[Haeretic] Well, Damianos has created some excellent videos and has provided some excellent leadership to the guild. Jer always has something funny and odd to say and has always kept things fun. Sekh and Mose are great leaders and provided some great research into game mechanics. Amunok is one of the most knowledgeable people in Warhammer Online and Monkie has some wicked Scottish Rapping Skills.
[LW] What’s your guild status in WAR currently? Can you give some details about what experiences and adventures you’ve had so far? What different methods and tactics have you had to implement to achieve your goals? Did any methods not work out, and you had to change to a different method?
[Haeretic] We have always strived to lead our server in all the PVE and PVP content. We had great fun taking keeps and fortresses and have lately been in Altdorf on almost a daily basis (we have recently transferred to the Iron Rock server). We have 3 groups and around 25 people who have completed Lost Vale, and do it on a consistent basis. When we first started the game we expected to have set nights where we could schedule PVP events. Pretty early on we learned that we cannot set the time and place where large-scale PVP will occur and instead we just try to go out and have fun whenever we are on.
[LW] Is there anything that’s not in the game currently but Mythic has stated will be in the game in the near future that The Schism is really excited about?
[Haeretic] We are excited to see the new RVR dungeon coming this summer and look forward to some of the itemization changes coming in Patch 1.2.
[LW] What type of players do you look for when recruiting? What are your recruitment requirements and processes?
[Haeretic] We look for players who want to be the very best and who can dedicate at least a few hours a week to that purpose. To apply, just register on our forums and fill out an application.
