“Winds of Change
In our efforts to improve server stability and performance in Open Realm vs. Realm combat, the players of Dark Crag will have the opportunity to participate in a live test of a new system called “Winds of Change.”
The goal of this system is to ensure the best Open Realm vs. Realm experience for as many people as possible and to prevent server crashes. Overall, this system will only take effect in the most extreme server load situations, and will only happen as a last measure before the zone would actually crash.
In order to accomplish this goal “The Winds of Change” will now teleport a small number of players in Realm vs. Realm lakes to the closest “safe point” when crowds are large enough to threaten the stability of the server. This will generally be the nearest Warcamp, however, it may also be a Chapter Hub within the zone depending on where performance is being impacted the most.
The system will first warn players that the Winds of Change are coming. If performance in the impacted area does not improve the system will select first those who are currently dead on the ground to be moved followed by those who are severely wounded. Those selected will receive a message explaining that they have been moved. We realize this change is inconveniencing to those impacted, and anticipate that this system is temporary while we continue to improve overall stability.
Please note that if you are ported but eligible for contribution rewards such as loot bags or medallions, you will still have an opportunity to win and retrieve them if you were ported during the assault on a Keep or Fortress.
We look forward to your feedback during this test and encourage those on Dark Crag to post here once they’ve had an opportunity to experience the new system.
Thank you for your continued support.”
Just wanted to some feedback on this for the podcast. I do realize they stated, “this change is inconveniencing to those impacted, and anticipate that this system is temporary while we continue to improve overall stability”. Temporary or not it is still has an inconveniencing impact to players just as Mythic stated above. I’m gonna hold out to see the full functionality of this temporary fix before I pass judgement but I wanted to see what our readers opinions on this new mechanic were.
Please post your thoughts in the comments thread below.
See you in WAR!

It was dead before it started. Public outcry was far too harsh on Mythic. The mob demanded they CTD instead of get ripped out of the zone by their knob and biscuits. Also, fix the zones from crashing, and players will deal with the time required to do so.
I see bad things if Mythic ignores this sentiment.

I have to agree, while I can understand that Mythic needs more time to fix the issue… punishing players by removing them from a battle because “the server can’t handle it” irritates me. If I actually was involved in a good large fight (which is rare enough as it is) I’d be pissed off if it teleprted me out. THE FORCES OF CHAOS DONT FLEE!! We stand and fight till the bitter end! (Hence my laughter of the name of this idea)
Main point: Don’t punish players for enjoying the core part of the game that you (Mythic) created just because your servers suck.
Written on iTouch, so I apologize if I typoed.

mm… i didnt experience it personally, but if its moving dead people in forts out to the warcamps, then i think thats a great thing. If they cant be rezzed then they’re just wasting space. you still get to roll on loot from the fortress if you arent there.
moving players who are still alive and low on health sucks b/c it denies kills. Maybe if it was instituted as just something that happens to players that refuse to release, then i could see it being a good mechanic.

obviously as someone said above, this thing was dead before it was even put on dark crag and mythic realized it and pulled it right away. to me its a terrible idea. just my opinion but whether youre dead or not you shouldnt be taken out of what youre doing. from a player standpoint you dont want to be pulled from the experience youre participating in. why should i be removed from the battle just because the servers and the game are not optimized to perform at the level that was marketed. this makes me stand behind my earlier remarks that the game cannot run at a level that the concept of this game requires.
i didnt experience this mechanic, and understand it was to be temporary but to me its never a good idea to punish your players for lack of execution on the dev companys part. why were things like this not worked out during beta?
please mythic, prove me wrong so we can experience the concept of WAR in its entirety.
