DDO: Eberron Unlimited

Have you ever wanted to play Dungeons and Dragons Online but didn’t want to pay the monthly fee?

Well thanks to the new game update for DDO, that’s still currently in beta testing, Dungeons and Dragons Online: Eberron Unlimited, players will now have the ability to download the game and play it for free.

The new game will be running off of what is referred to as a hybrid game model. Meaning: those who have downloaded and are playing the game for free will be given the ability to purchase in game items and account services from a real life store – in this instance the brand new DDO store. While those who are traditional in their MMO game play and services , the ones who pay the monthly fee, get unlimited access to all the game’s content. (I can really only think of Free Realms as a basis as to what the paying system would be like.)

Here’s a chart that compares the abilities of a paid per month membership with the “free” membership.

If all of that wasn’t enough to entice you in trying out DDO for free then some of the updates the new expansion might.

*Content & Features: DDO Unlimited will deliver a new class (speculated to be a druid), increase the level cap, introduce new adventure packs including a new 12 player raid, major combat improvements.

*Fierce Combat: DDO Unlimited features an extraordinary and heart stopping combat experience that requires players to fully engage in the battle by relying on their wits and reflexes in real time. No more clicking skills and watching the action from the sideline.

*Mind-Blowing Visuals: Explore a vast and dangerous online world, featuring the most advanced graphics in the industry, that is stuffed with the legendary monsters, glorious treasures, devious traps, mind-bending puzzles and endless adventures from the world’s best known RPG.

*Full-featured MMO-ness: Experience sophisticated systems found only in the best games including auctions, arena death matches (Player versus Player), NPC hirelings, gambling, crafting, and powerful social tools for finding a group, forming a guild or planning an epic raid!

*Playing With Ease: DDO Unlimited gets you playing in minutes instead of hours, using new proprietary Turbine technology. Creating a new character is incredibly simple with guides and templates that speed you through the process. Features an all-new new player experience that gives gamers their first taste of excitement quickly while teaching them how to play solo or with a group of fellow adventurers.

Sadly I have not had the opportunity to try the game out myself. Mostly due to the fact that my plate is already full of personal vendettas, games that I’m currently playing that keep my attention as well as keep me intently distracted (Oxymoron anyone?) from other games, and to top it all off I have a lack of interest in non-free F2P MMO’s.

However, that shouldn’t stop those of you who wish to go back and experience the beginning.
