I’ve done a couple posts about the Land of the Dead. It really depends on the server as now many more evenly balanced servers are starting to level off a bit. On these servers, people are treating it like the vacation spot with light skirmishing it was always supposed to be. However, on the unbalanced servers the losing realm still has yet to fully experience the place as there’s rarely an opportunity to venture onward.

Of course, this usually turns into a sandy bloodbath as the dominating realm harasses pretty well, while continuing to take zones, and flipping control shortly after the lockout timer runs out.

Shiny new toys, but not for myself, or really Order on Praag in general.

That being said, I actually enjoy being the underdog in the desert anyway. RvR happens all the time, and Destro will die, jump in a scenario, respawn in LotD at full health and continue the harassment. SO amdist LotD PQ’s on Praag, Order continuously has RvR, although we don’t get much of a chance to unlock any of the phat PvE loot. I’ll take Warlord gear on a regular basis over it any day.

It’s an interesting trade-off, but overall comes out neutral IMO.

  2. Firstto Firstto Said,

Well done Ziss, you’re quite the debater. :)

Personally, I’m not a fan of LotD (Man I feel like I’m beating a dead horse here, haha). Its not an end all be all, but as you said its not what we would have liked. I just hate… haaaaaaaaate… RvE, I’m sure you can understand that, and largely RvE occurs… a lot, due to LotD. I think you’re enjoying yourself so much because PT has a large enough population that you can do both at the same time (RvR campaign and LotD), so its an amazing win-win. You have a purpose for RvRing, and those that want to, get to enjoy the rewards of your efforts.

On a sidenote, I realize that most of the people who are responding to my thread that you mentioned, which can be found here:

    http://www.warhammeralliance.com/forums/showthread.php?t=299475

probably aren’t the happiest campers ever… but most of them haven’t been trolls at all. Surprisingly, many have given very well thought out responses… (is it sad that I take pride in this threads existence? Lol)

Double Sidenote!: I just wrote an article on the episode over at my blog, I’d love to hear your response to it. (Hope I didn’t skew anything incorrectly!)

ANYWAYS, I’ll try to log in here and there and give LotD a few more chances, but its really just not my cup of tea.

    Several things,

Good podcast. I enjoyed listening to it.

The getting the bug petition for choppas going – I might be able to help you with that. Send me an email and I’ll get back to you next week. My plan is to start a website that tracks bugs, issues and solutions and Warhammer was going to be my testbed for trying the idea out. That will probably suit your purposes, but I need to find a web host and check out some software licenses first. Also you’ll be using a first version so I can’t promise it won’t be rocky. I’ll keep you posted anyway if you send me your email (I presume you have it from this comment).

Your question about LotD. One issue with it is it fragments the PvP base. Often on my server, one side has LotD and the other side is pushing for IC/altdorf. The result is one side is PvEing and one side is RvEing but theres no PvP.

Because LotD does make the PvP population swing so much there is very little point PvPing when you don’t have LotD, there just won’t be enough enemies to fight. I’ve frequently logged on, seen we didn’t have LotD and logged off. When you do have LotD and the enemy is all in the lakes though, PvP is awesome (if you have a good group so you can fight larger numbers of enemies). But the problem is Its not good though for people to log on, see the LotD state and realise the best course of action is to do something else. Those are just my views.

Good Podcast, hope your move goes well.

Land of the Dead has for me just added to my over all enjoyment of the game. Yes it is currently more of a PvE addition but it is new content and an option to game play that if I decided to take (when open) then I can. If it isn’t and I want in then I do my best to further the required goals needed to open LotD.

It is a beautiful zone with lots of good loot and excitement to be had, though I hope they update the PQ’s as they will get stale over time as we need to redo them to get into the tomes.

I agree with the hour over lap I think that would be a great way to further the RvR part of LotD. So far fighting on the sandy dunes has been a load of fun but short for the most part.

One thing I have noticed is that for a portion of the time, I refer this as the grey zone time, just when LotD changes hands there appears to be a surge in single and small group fighting taking place in the RvR lakes. I guess this is when large parts of the new winners flood to clear LotD and those already in to hold as long as possible. So this leaves a few to hunt each other in a Zerg free environment. I am not sure if others have seen this or not, I may be crazy after all.

Anyways keep up the great work there and as a side note. I hope to find that new choppa of yours on PT and introduce him to my latest alt Eronair, SW and his bow. HAHA!!

  5. Ghostjeep Ghostjeep Said,

Awesome podcast as usual. Its very nice to see that you’re sticking with the game. I respect the fact that you point out the faults yet do not dwell or stew over them like many others.

LotD has added new content for PvE and a new reason to RvR. I mean its a rush to be in Tomb of the Vulture Lord and see that you have been invaded! Time to hurry back and turn on that flame trap :)
As far as server wide I see it may have an impact in the numbers of people coming to defend keeps and forts, but to be honest those people in LotD that won’t come to help defend are the same people who spam for Blood, Bile, and bastion runs during those same times.

Hope to see you in battle one day,
    Ghostjeep

  6. Gauge Gauge Said,

I am amazed at the negativity surrounding this game. I am on the Badalnds server. I see the same type of “this game sucks” chat all the time. Yet when you suggest they go play another MMO with a 3 letter acronym they make excuses.

LotD has brougth whole new aspect to my server as far as city sieges. It seems that city sieges are becoming more frequent because that other faction is in LotD. This may encourage RvE to an extent, but I know my guild will also leave LotD to go defend as well. My biggest dissapointment with LotD is a bit trivial. I thought it would be a much bigger zone.

    Keep up the good work.

  7. dorath dorath Said,

I’ve only made it to the LotD a couple times. While this is partly due to work, it is mostly due to the population imbalance on Vortex. One of those times I was lucky enough to find a nearly full warband, which proceeded to romp through several of the new PQs. I had a good time in there and even picked up a better weapon than I was using when I went in. Unfortunately there wasn’t time to hit any of the lairs or the new dungeon, but I am looking forward to a return trip. That is assuming we can unlock access during my standard play times. ;-)

  8. Elling Elling Said,

First of all, good podcast and good luck with the moving, im in my 2 moving week, and there is still things to be unpacked :P It was a good thing to hear your podcast cuz I was starting to get realy frustrting with all the negativ forum talk. I hear many people complaining up and down about LOTD wihtout having any good reason for it. I have read people talking about the doom of WAR and giving fictiv sub numbers, and when asked where they got those numbers one can only hear crickets.

Personaly I coudn’t care much about LOTD, I hate pve and I don’t enjoy playing PvE at all. All my toons are leveled mostly trough oRvR and scenarios. The only thing that interste me with LOTD is the possiblity to hunt people down and kill them, I havn’t played much due to moving but the times I have played have been very fun. Running around in LOTD hunting destro is fun. I hear people complain about less RvR with LOTD but I don’t see the problem over time, of course everybody wants to run into LOTD and check it out and hunt for loot in the beginning. its a new zone with lotfs of new shiny things its only natural that people want to visit it. In the next weeks I belive more and more people will go out back in the tier 4 zones.

But I have to agree with the critic towards mythic, why make more pve stuff for a RvR orientet game, especialy when existing content needs fixing- It just stupid.

  9. OneShard OneShard Said,

I am with you Ziss and don’t understand all the negativity. Land of the Dead swops on our server (uk Karak-Azgal ) all the time and both sides still try and defend or take keeps. I think Land of the Dead has brought the opportunity for small skirmishes, when it flips you can spend hours hiding from the enemy and taking down stragglers.

Some players seem to want a magic fix, when really all they probably need is a break to go and play something else.
