Blizzard is known for releasing a major patch every five months or so that contains a ton of free content. Patch 3.2 was just released today, the second major patch since the Wrath of The Lich King expansion came out. Included in the patch are significant changes and additions to Battlegrounds, which haven’t seen many changes or added features in a fairly long time. In a Q&A with Cory Stockton, the Lead Content Designer for World of Warcraft, he gave a brief overview of what’s new and what changes there are for Battlegrounds in patch 3.2.

Experience gain in Battlegrounds has been desired by players for awhile and it’s finally being implemented. XP will be gained by completing Battleground objectives, but not by killing enemy players. Cory explains “players can expect to earn experience at a rate that is a bit slower than questing at the same level, for the same amount of time.” Players can choose to turn experience gain on/off, but it will cost 10g each change and Battleground instances will only match you with players with the experience gain option set the same as yours.

Also in the patch is the new Battleground Isle of Conquest. This is a 40 vs 40 battleground for characters over level 71 to take part in. Isle of Conquest allows for new strategies and adds components to the fights such as vehicle combat, bombing the enemy’s keep wall, and catapulting yourself into their base. These and other options create an experience unlike any other in World of Warcraft.

These additions mark just the beginning of a bright future for Battlegrounds. After Arenas were introduced in The Burning Crusade expansion, Battlegrounds have not been altered or expanded much at all. Cory Stockton concluded the Q&A session saying “We are planning to implement rated Battlegrounds in a future patch. We will be giving more details on this system at BlizzCon.” Patch 3.2 has a ton of PvE and PvP content to make any World of Warcraft player happy. It’s currently available to download and is live on all realms. Enjoy!
