If I could pick and choose all of the best features in the MMORPGs that I have played and stuff them into my favorite games, I think I would definitely scrunch the following features into one rock solid game of joy:
- All the housing capabilities of Star Wars Galaxies
- Elaborate materials extraction, crafting, and economy of Star Wars Galaxies with the option for resource node and basic component crafting like WoW or LOTRO
- The character customization of Champions Online
- The PvP of Warhammer or Dark Age of Camelot
- Large population (Worlds of Warcraft)
- The story and narrative background power comparable to the of Lord of the Rings Online
- The vast contiguous lands of Lord of the Rings Online
- Voice over acting
- Dynamic world generation
- Dynamic quest generation
- User driven content like City of Heroes Mission builder or Star Wars Galaxies story builder vendors
- Public Quests like that in Warhammer Online
- In world and instanced PvP: Scenario based PvP (Warhammer), In the Game World PvP (Warhammer / WoW / SWG) , and special PvP Instances (LOTRO)
- PvE Instanced Scenarios (LOTRO)
- User customizable chat channels
- Here lies a problem that I would like to see solved. Uneven progression in MMORPGs allows hard core people to move faster than casual gamers. If you level at a normal pace and your buddy leaves for vacation for two weeks. You are now out of step and can’t play together. We need a bi-directional sidekick system or a system that allows people of different levels to EFFECTIVELY group together. Champions On-Line has the closest that I’ve seen, but it still appears somewhat improbable.
There is probably a lot more than this, but these are some of the features the no game delivers under one roof.
