Return to WoW, or, You’ll Want to When You Read This

excited

Something that was “unofficially announced” recently that I feel is just HUGE hasn’t been getting any press lately. The Onion video about Sony’s Releasing a New Piece of S*** that Doesn’t Fing Work has been popping up on my radar far more than one of the biggest announcements since Wrath of the Lich King.

DDR2, DDR3, Double Ds, and Didgeridoos

ram lulz

Back when I was first experimenting with PCs, SD-RAM was “the stuff”. In those days it came in sticks anywhere from 32-256MB, and speeds that you were lucky to find at 133MHz. SD-RAM sticks were very long, with two notches in them. From there, the technology evolved into DDR.

WoW Does Hallmark

To say that WoW holiday celebrations are over the top would be an understatement. In their latest undertaking, “Love is In the Air” (which, annoyingly, overlapped with the Lunar Festival) players are encouraged to congregate in massive packs in major cities and spam /trade /local and /yell with “HEARTBROKEN NEED FIX”, and “WTB Love Fool”.

PC Legos 2

Floppy cables are a little bit smaller, and have a curious “twist” in the middle of one end. Decades ago this twist probably served a valid functional purpose, and only exists now because of our self-destructive tendancy to cling to dead technology (and identify which end goes to the drive).

Someone who was never max level prior to the Burning Crusade expansion probably has no idea what Rookery Whelps are, or how to round of 50 of them, or even where in The World they are. For the rest of us, who pain-stakingly farmed Fire Resistance gear for months on end so that we might glympse the fabled Molten Core, who broke Marshall Windsor out of prison more times then we care to count, who applied MORE DOTS and STAYED AWAY FROM HER TAIL, who were The Bomb, who know the pains of Suppression, who wore Onyxia on our backs and know that Wing Buffet is not a self-serve chicken dinner; we know what a Rookery Whelp is VERY WELL. MANY WHELPS!

Computer Legos

There are only so many different connectors, ports, plugs, slots, and sockets in a computer, and 99% of the time the two pieces that are supposed to fit together, do, while the pieces that shouldn’t go together do not. But, I can confess that I comprehend the confusion of others when staring into the complex guts of a computer. Without at least a basic knowledge of the way things work and what plugs in where it must be a daunting challenge. In this article (which will likely expand into two+ articles) we’ll talk about the various plugs, ports, slots, sockets, connectors, etc that one will find in a computer, what they connect to, and why. The goal is that by the time we’re done, you’ll be able to venture out into the world and match compatible computer components utilizing this information.

Cheap Parts – Finding a Vendor for Computer Parts

vidcard

It can be a challenge to locate parts for your new custom PC. How do you know if you’re getting a good deal? Is it better to look in a computer store or to buy it online? What about used parts? With all the questions flying around your head you may be tempted to just… [Continue Reading]

Lunar Festival – WoW In-Game Event

lunarfest

In the real world, the Lunar Festival of WoW coincides roughly with the beginning of the Chinese new year. I won’t attempt to speak on the subject of Chinese New Year or associated traditions (mostly because I’d get it wrong) but I can tell you all about the Lunar Festival, and that the two or loosely related.

Death Knight Talents

Arthas the Death Knight

Death Knights are the newest class addition to World of Warcraft, the first and only (so far) hero class. Since anyone with a level 55 character or higher can make one on the server of their choice, and the Death Knight starts at level 55, they have become a very popular choice for people seeking… [Continue Reading]

The Way It’s Meant to Be Played

I wanted to include this segment in my series on ‘building your own custom gaming PC’ because it is important that people know what they need in a computer in order to play there favorite games. Face it, the bogus minimum or recommended specs printed on the side of the box are never accurate, and worse yet are designed to make someone with a subpar PC buy their game only to find out they can’t play it. They would never be caught dead erring on the side of the consumer.
