SAR: On Hype and Satisfaction

Posted by Syeric August 20, 2010

If there’s one common thread that ties American MMOs together, it’s their unfailing ability to hype their product beyond all reasonable expectations. MMOs are saviors and inasmuch as games like Guild Wars 2 try to “challenge the conventions” they proclaim their MMO-messiahship with twisting tongues. The irony of focusing on day one box sales in [...]

SAR: Making the Most of Multiple Games

Posted by Syeric July 23, 2010

As a self-proclaimed MMO Nomad, I make it a point to spread my playtime out over multiple titles. The problem is that most MMOs aren’t designed to be anything other than a main game; MMO designers expect you to take their baby and make it your own. It’s a common thought that playing more than [...]

Warhammer Online: The Problem with Progressive PvP

Posted by Xavier Morgan April 14, 2010

Many of you don’t like detailed prose, so here is the short summary.  You can read further to see the details.
Key points:

Warhammer is a solid universe with a great story background for a PvP game.
Renown ranks are in such disparity that it makes the game boring and causes resignation due to scenario and open RvR [...]

Warhammer – Still Life in the Old Girl?

Posted by Xavier Morgan March 13, 2010

I get bored with the same old.  I canceled my Warhammer account about a year ago.  I reactivated last week.  Tier 4 was hopping fun.  To be truthful, it was a series of books that I read over the last six weeks that whetted my Warhammer appetite.  Vampire Wars, The Vampire Genevieve, and Gotrek and [...]

The October War Patch First Impressions

Posted by Xavier Morgan October 16, 2009

I ran home after an interesting late night session with the 21st Judicial District Drug Task Force in Tennessee and just had to go to War!  Armed with a Corona and a mighty high speed internet connection, I logged in to see if I could sense any major changes immediately.  I live on Volkmar, and [...]

With every MMORPG comes a whole slew of new classes and their abilities for which you must learn to be a successful player and Warhammer Online is no exception. The main class, or career as it’s called in WAR, that I play is a Greenskin shaman. Shamans are of the healing archetype but [...]

The Wild Hunt, the latest WAR live event

Posted by Sarc August 1, 2009

I hop onto the warhammer online homepage to check out the latest announcements and see whats up, and im greeted with The Wild Hunt!! What sounds like a COMPLETELY cool event. Ok, well we’ll see how it pans out, but it has potential. Here’s really the two most important things you can pick up from the page.

2009wildhunt_kurnous_thumb1- There is a new Instanced Dungeon only accessibly in High Elf vs. Dark Elf Pairings. (RvR area)

2- There is at least one AMAZING reward- An item that gives you MOUNT speed for a short duration. Can’t catch that Engi who’s kiting you? What about the Squig Herder who’s always stickin’ up your feet? Well hot DAMN if this isn’t going to own faces in 1v1.

3- IT STARTS TODAY! AUG 31!

War Newbie Guide: RvR

Posted by Sarc July 26, 2009

At this point in the game you’re probably wondering why you would want to control the zone. I mean, with scenarios queue-able from anywhere and quests galore, who has time to jump into the RvR lake?!? Well, first Tier 1 open RvR is very exciting and as you get higher in level you will HUGELY crush lower level opposition since you have more skills at your disposal than they will. It’s Honest to Sigmar fun since if you capture the pairing you receive a big fat chunk of experience and renown!

So here’s the deal, there are 4 battlefield objectives around the zone, pop open the map and look for Flag symbols, they will have a timer next to them which is counting down, we’ll worry about that later. At each of these flags there are NPC guards that you will have to defeat in order to claim the BFO, in Tier 1 they aren’t terribly tough so you can solo or duo the NPCs with smart pulls, dependent on your career of course. Once you take the BFO by right clicking on it after all the guards are dead, you have to maintain control for 3 minutes. Pro Tip: During this time the opposite realm will have been alerted to your activity and will likely be running their tier 1 booties over to your location so if there is any advantageous terrain now is the time to get on, in or behind it. (i.e. Ranged DPS should try to get elevated, MDPS should hide behind a building or a rock so that they can surprise anybody coming in and Support should hide behind something obscure so you can pop in and out of Line of Sight to heal your friends and cast spells on your enemies)
