[LW] What is Eden?
Eden is a World of Warcraft guild. We are an Alliance guild that began on the Mal’Ganis server in July of 2006. In May of 2009, we transferred to the Scilla server and now call Scilla home.
[LW]How did Eden get started?
Eden was created with the anticipation of the Burning Crusade being released. We were looking forward to smaller 25 man raids. Serinity previously managed a different guild in the past and many of its members were scattered to the wind when she left the game. When we learned about Blizzard’s plan to make raids smaller with 25 people, we decided to regroup and create Eden. We started Eden with nine people in July of 2006 and by the time the Burning Crusade came out in January 2007, we had a roster of 58 members.
When we created the guild, it was our primary goal to prove that it’s possible to have a really great community of players who also succeed in end-game progression raiding. One of the things that we saw happening with a lot of guilds was how they overlooked certain personality factors and made recruitment decisions based on a player’s gear and class; this (in our experience) resulted in a less than desirable raiding environment. Having to mute half a raid team in vent because they were obnoxious asshats isn’t how we wanted to spend our time in game.
With Eden, we have worked hard to strike a balance between maintaining a strong raiding team and a strong community. We feel that we have successfully shattered the mold of what a raiding guild should be and have proven that community and raiding are not mutually exclusive concepts.
[LW] To reiterate from the first question, what different games has Eden been a part of and for how long? Were roots deep in these games? And was Eden as established in other games as they are in WoW?
The core of Eden actually started in Asheron’s Call 2 (AC2). The guild was not called Eden at the time; it was called CoL (Council of Light). We played AC2 for over a year. CoL was a great community, but AC2’s content was limited and found ourselves creating our own games within the game out of sheer boredom.
As AC2 was dying, Serinity received a WoW Alpha invite through one of the members in CoL; she tested Alpha for about six months. Then, through various contacts, she got 35 closed-beta keys and moved the guild from AC2 to WoW beta. CoL went live in retail on Mal’Ganis in November 2004. In April 2005, Serinity quit the game in order to focus on real l[...]</itunes:summary>

[LW] Tell us a little bit about The Schism.
[Haeretic] The Schism started officially in Age of Conan. Many of us have played together between 5-10 years, including games such as Ultima Online, DAOC, EQ2, WoW, Shadowbane, etc.
[LW] How many members currently?
[Haeretic] We currently retain about 50 active players. Of these 50, 15 have come with us from other games.
[LW] What attracted you to WAR?
[Haeretic] Several of us were fortunate enough to play Warhammer Online beta and loved it! We enjoyed the RvR and tactical battles.
[LW] Can you give us a short description of how you feel the game has come along thus far?
[Haeretic] Honestly, the game is not the game I thought it would be in Beta. Too much of the RvR system depends on PVE elements and a VERY populous server. I think the changes made over the past month or two and the changes coming between now and this summer have a chance to turn the tide and make the game very successful.
The Schism – Ungrim from Idlestudios on Vimeo
[LW] Slayer or Choppa?
[Haeretic] Chosen! I already have a Chosen and Black Guard at level 40, I think a third would be overkill although both the new classes look great.
[LW] Are you excited about the recent 1.2 patch and the direction it is taking the game?
[Haeretic] There are many nice things coming in the patch. I’m hoping that the changes to zone control makes playing on a less than full server fun. I would hate to see the servers merged even further than they have been.
[LW] Any changes you feel should be made to RvR in order to make the experience even better?
[Haeretic] The RvR system is fun at times, who doesn’t love it when 2 large forces meet in the middle of a field or at a keep and duke it out? Or when you are able to fool your adversary with a nice tactical move to win against superior forces.
If I were in charge I would take out NPCs from Forts and Keeps and put in a Flag you have to control for a set amount of time. That said, the possibility of guilds being able to buy a select number of guards for keeps they control would be cool. I think too much of the RvR experience is directed at fighting NPCs, which at times makes sieges both boring and frustrating. I think the 1.2 changes will make things better as far as zone control.
[LW] PVE – Thoughts?
[Haeretic] By PVE I’m going to answer it[...]</itunes:summary>

[LW] So first off, what is Fist of the Empire and how many members do you currently have?
[Praelian] Our guild is Fist of the Empire, also known as F.O.E or “foe”. We have 154 active members across three games; Star Wars Galaxies, World of Warcraft, and Warhammer Online. We have 40 active members in Warhammer.
[LW] How did the guild get started?
[Praelian] FoE started out as a group of friends playing FPS in late 2002 on the west coast Unreal servers, in 2003 we launched ourselves Fist of the Empire in SWG, and having been going strong over the past 6 years.
[LW] To reiterate some parts from question 2, what different games has members of your guild been a part of and for how long?
[Praelian] In Star Wars Galaxies, FoE was the first to develop a full suit of Mando armor on the server Bria. We also were the ones to perfect city take overs, and took nearly 5 cities in total, starting major drama in that game. We also found a loop hole in the Jedi leveling system and perfected and organized the Jedi Fight Club which got nearly all the jedi on the server banned (not a shinning moment). We started a massive server wide protest in game resulting in SoE changing their EULA and landed us an interview with PC Gamer and Lucas Arts Legal team. We are still going strong and are the oldest guild (to my knowledge) on bria.
We had a slow transition over to World of Warcraft due to a lot of the key leaders deploying to Iraq/Afghanistan. However, once we got back, we quickly ramped up our raids catching up with many of the larger guilds. FoE section in WoW has weathered all the drama that WoW can offer and is the oldest active raiding guild on Archimonde. We have a decent raid now and have cleared most if not all the content.
We did have a short lived period in Shadowbane to test out what “hardcore” pvp is that many pvp communities rave about. We took a city from a Chinese guild and held it for several months. We lost interested in the game since it was extremely outdated and the latency was almost unbearable–but it was free!
Of course we currently have a section of the guild in WAR. We were part of the alliance that first locked zones on Dark Crag.
[LW] How many of the current guild members are “original” members so to speak? Members that have carried over from past games that you have played?
[Praelian] We have a low attrition rate, but over the past 6 years, there are only 3 out of the first 6 left that started the guild. Most have just quit gaming all together but they do check on us from time to time. We average about 2-3 applications a day, those that make it into FoE usually stay with us. We have a inside joke that we are like a cult and force members to drink the kool-aid and shave their heads when they come join us![...]</itunes:summary>

Lagwar.com Presents…
“Archons of Malice, a Warhammer Online Guild”

[LW] So first off, what is AoM and how many members do you currently have?
[Anglakhel] The Archons of Malice are a Dark Elf themed Roleplay Guild with a heavy RvR focus. We’re devoted to the Witch King of Naggaroth and are prepared to do anything necessary to serve his war. We’re a small guild with around thirty members but looking to grow in the long term.
[LW] How did AoM get started?
[Anglakhel] That’s actually a really complicated question. Some elements preceed WAR, but we’re really a WAR guild. I helped to found the Archons in WoW on the Stormscale server. The Archons of Malice grew out of some of my core inspiration for that guild when I moved my focus over to WAR. The current incarnation of the AoM actually started as part of another guild, the White Flame. I’ve been following WAR since the beginning (actually before the beginning if you count the earlier attempt at a Warhammer MMO). As I lurked around various WAR fan sites, I found a great group of players in a heavily Chaos themed guild. I joined up with the White Flame and over time became an officer in the guild. The problem was that although I really respected the passionate fans of Chaos and the lore behind the guild, I really wanted to be a Dark Elf. I knew from the moment I found out about WAR that I would be playing a Dark Elf.
I had always planned on being whatever the Dark Elf Tank Career ended up being, and when the Black Guard was announced, I began focusing my character’s background. The problem was that there is so much great stuff about the background of the Black Guard and I wanted to be a “real” Black Guard. It was hard to explain what this Black Guard of Malekith was doing following a Daemon Prince of Chaos Undivided. So, I started looking for ways to incorporate my Druchii character into the guild without sacrificing what I considered to be essential to the personality of the Druchii, in general, and the Black Guard, in particular. I proposed a background to explain why some of Malekith’s Black Guard would be serving a Chaos warhost and we began working it into the background for the guild.
As the guild developed, the plan became to have several Heralds that would lead sub-guilds called “Hosts.” I was promoted to Herald and decided to expand some of my ideas for my character’s back story into a broader background for my entire Host. The Archons of Malice proper emerged at this point as a Druchii Host within the White Flame that was loyal to Malekith, but sworn to aid the the White Flame. It was through a collaborat[...]</itunes:summary>

A chat with Shadow Company’s Bugbig
[LW] First off, what is SC and how many members do you currently have?
[Bugbig] SC is a mercenary themed, role-play respectful guild that caters to mature gamers (age 25-50). We have over 1,100 registered members on our guild website and have 5 active, in-game troops (WAR-Destruction, WAR-Order, LOTRO, AoC, and our newest Troop on WoW. We have also explored Vanguard and EQ2.)
[LW] How did Shadow Company get started?
[Bugbig] SC was formed in 2004 by myself in Everquest 2 on the Antonia Bayle (RP) Server.
[LW] To reiterate some parts from question 2, what different games has Shadow Company been a part of and for how long? Were SC’s roots deep in these games? Was SC as established in other games as they are in WAR?
[Bugbig]SC was active for several years in our first MMO, Everquest 2. We had approximately 120 members at any one time and were well respected in the Antonia Bayle server as a guild that could raid, roleplay, and most importantly to me a respectful and positive addition to the community.
We launched into Vanguard with about 80 members but majority of the members left after 90 days. Vanguard was left with a skeleton crew and was commanded by Captain Euwen (aka Iserod) who sadly after joining us in Age of Conan passed away at an extremely sad age and time in his life. His story, as told by his fiancée and friends, can be found on our forums as a sticky under our forums of “Community Board & Misc.”
When Lord of the Rings Online launched SC was there day 1 and still remains an active presence there with about 100 members lead by my longtime MMO friend and an original EQ2 member, Captain Oakos.
In Age of Conan, SC was there day 1 and enjoyed much content and the mature, gritty realm. We had over 140 members and were the second guild on the server to build a tier 3 city and hence claim a RvR keep. Some of the footage of our 4 year anniversary video is us “paying a visit” (smiles) to a neighboring keep.
In WAR we were there on day 1 and due to our history and core membership were quickly able to ramp up to over 100 members within a week and currently have about 200 members.

[LW] How many of the current SC WAR members are “original” members so to speak? Members that have carried over from past games that SC has played?
[Bugbig] About 100 of our WAR members are also members of previous/current MMO Troops. Being an established, cross-MMO guilds allows us to quickly ramp up and be successful as new MMOs are launched. Games come and go, to us the importance is the people behind the keyboard and the community we have fostered.
[LW] What attracted SC to WAR? What would you say is your personal favorite part of the game currently?
[Bugbig] Any major MMO is, by default, an attraction to me personally. WAR has great lore, a development team that truly understands and is passionate about MMOs, and some very exciting gameplay. My favorite part about WAR is the variety. You can quest, get some quick scenario PvP action in, grab the guild or allian[...]</itunes:summary>

ExtraWAR is a part of the MyExtraLife.com community, made famous by their World of Warcraft podcast The Instance and the AIE guild. Lagwar has no doubt that ExtraWAR has every bit of potential to become Warhammer Online’s AIE guild and beyond. Brilen and Ziss sat down with Scott C, ExtraWAR’s most fearless Ork and guild leader.
Here’s an overview of Show #12:
*Lagwar’s Guild Spotlight on ExtraWAR
*Brilen and Ziss sit down with Scott from ExtraWAR to discuss the guild and WAR
*Over 45 minutes of audio from our ExtraWAR interview

[LW] Extra Life seems to have many forms these days. Can you tell us what ExtraWAR is and what brought idea of it on? Headcount?
[Scott] ExtraWAR is many things. A group of friends, a guild, a community if you will. When I sat down to think about this guild a lot of things went through my mind; things like, How will I find the time for this, What kind of money is needed, where will the people come from (I.E. members). I wanted the BEST, so that’s where I went….to the BEST community on the internet; Scott Johnson’s ExtraLife. I’ve been a part of Extralife for quite a while now, see, I’m such a big fan of comics and webscomics etc. so when I found Scott Johnson’s website it was like a home away from home for me. I was trolling the usual forums and I just couldn’t get this off my mind, why not take advantage of what is already set up here? What brought it on…..It’s kind of funny to explain this but, it was seriously a spurt of the moment kind of thing. I was listening to the Instance and scott gave a shout-out to his typefrag sponsorship and I got to thinking of how much I missed my old ventrilo server I had with some buddies back in d&d and battlefield, css, etc. I went and called a couple friends and we got on it and started chatting. It’s all $$ from there =) We have 88 members but some of those are initiates so we actually have about 65 registered.
[LW] Who all was involved in the creation of ExtraWAR? Was it spontaneous or was it in planning while WAR was in development?
[Scott] The creation was pretty much spontaneous. I really just fed off of the past; I was SO big into PC gaming in High school that I almost lost touch with reality. I was a big old kid that didn’t care about anything except getting home and playing some guild wars. I stopped playing for a year, got my life in order, and decided to come back and do this right. After the guild idea was formed and I bought the ventrilo, web host, and domain (which I was ecstatic about btw, I mean, how cool is ExtraWAR), I got together with my friends, Meister and Brandon, and I told them that I was going to form this guild and they pretty much supported me 100%. Meister, Brandon, and I all come from a pretty big PC gaming background; and we all have our niches. Brandon is the big melee guy, meister is the healer or ranged dps, and I’m whatever they want that can fit with the group =) We’ve been playing games together since the 7th grade and we pretty much know the in’s and out’s of our individual playstyles. In guild wars I felt that we were pretty much an unbeatable 3 man team, depending on if Brandon and I felt like aggroing worse than Leeroy Jenkins (which we did quite often fyi). I think that’s why meister got[...]</itunes:summary>

“Lagwar.com Interview with KockGoblin of Goblin Army – Call of Duty 4 Clan”
[LW] So first off, what is Goblin Army and how many members do you currently have?
GoBlinARMY has evolved a bit over the years. I guess as it stands right now it’s an online FPS gaming community comprised of casual to hardcore gamers (leaning more on the casual side). We intend to branch out in other genres in the near future, but at the moment, there aren’t any non-FPS games that I think are worth investing in. In an MMO world, finding Grade A non-MMO’s is quite difficult. All developers want the next WoW, not the next Counter-Strike.
We currently have around 40+ active Members. There are a dozen or so that are inactive for numerous reasons, ranging from college, work schedules, family business, etc. We’re pretty lenient on activity amongst the Members. We understand that not everyone can be glued in front of their computers gaming 24/7. Our community consists mainly of college kids, husbands and wives with children, and young adults pursuing careers. I try to stress that GA should always be secondary to anything outside of their gaming schedules.
[LW] How did GA get started? What games are GA active currently in?
GA started late in 2003. I was an Admin on my friend’s Counter-Strike community, but it was a Newbie only server so at some point when your skills evolve, you can’t really justify playing on a server like that. So I created my own server running a new Warcraft 3 mod made by a developer named Ryan. It was a pretty huge success but it ran on a dedicated T1 line shared by my buddy’s server, so it was limited to 16 players. Shortly after I moved the server over to a game server host and have been outsourcing our servers ever since. It’s just grown from there, mainly thanks to our community’s hub, the forums.
Currently the only game we are active in is COD4. In my personal opinion, it’s the only online FPS that is doing well for gaming communities like ours. The Counter-Strike community was horribly divided when Source was released and now it seems to me the community is comprised mainly of competitive players and Asian internet cafe players. It’s a shame that Valve let such a great franchise go down the tubes. But maybe CS2 will revitalize it.
[LW] To reiterate some parts from question 2, what different games has GA been a part of and for how long? Any competitive play?
In chronological order, CS 1.[...]</itunes:summary>

[Interview Transcript - Brilen & Ziss from Lagwar with Ceolstan & Texson of The Amazon Basin]
[Brilen]: So, first off, what is the Amazon Basin and how many memebers do you currently have?
[Texson]: We’re a long time Guild Wars guild, Chelstan and I are the co-guild leaders of the guild. We don’t track statitstics terribly carefully, but we went back and did some counting and at the moment, we have 265 active members in our in-game guild.
[Ziss]: Wow. How did you guys get started?
[Ceolstan]: That, actually was a very intersting story. The Amazon Basin has it’s roots as a D2 guild and as players started to leave D2, they went into other games, Guild Wars is one of those games, but the actual history of the Guild Wars guild is when we started watching what the former Blizzard employees were doing, we noticed that they were doing Arena Net and then they had the E3 for everyone, which is very popular among the Basin crowd. So we really started talking about having a formal guild before the game started, and the we ended up getting involved in the Alpha testing of the game as well and now we’re at where we are right now.
[Ziss]: What caught your attention in the game, even playing in Alpha, that made you curious about it?
[Ceolstan]: The cooperative game play; that it really was a team game made it very attractive. We had players who were interested in team based PvP, and also, it’s visually stunning. I think all of those things came togther, plus a real sense of developer presence in the game and listening to what the players are doing. I think all of those things really caught the guild’s attention and got people behind the game.
[Brilen]: How many of your current members are your original members?
[Texson]: That’s a multi-layer answer. We also counted up how many members we had, and in addition to the 265 that are active, since release of the game, we’ve had about 1,100 others pass through as friends, new and old. We’ve had a lot of that. There’s actually quite a few in the guild that have been there since the beginning. Our parent organization, The Amazon Basin, which supports a number of games, has a tradition that many people come and they stay for a long time.
[Ziss]: That brings up a good question. How long has The Amazon Basin community been around?
[Texson] Actually, we celebrated our eight year anniversary in August. The orginal game was D2 and the Amazon Basin made it’s mark then. It is, to this day, probably one of the best known Diablo guilds in the world. Then they took on other games like Star Wars Galaxy, World of Warcraft, Guild Wars, Hellgate and now Warhammer.
[Ziss]: For people who are on the outside looking in at the Amazon Basin, can you name a few games[...]</itunes:summary>
