I personally cannot play one character, one class, on an MMO straight for over a few weeks. So this weekend I succumbed to the one thing I was trying to fight in Warhammer Online, altitus. So I decide to roll an order character, trying to get the other half of the story.

Now I’ve played Order before, a Dwarf Ironbreaker to be exact. He was my first character when I got the game, though I did only level him up to ten. There was just something about the Dwarven lands I didn’t like. It was bland, inside giant stone structures, out in barren red wastelands. Their story too wasn’t all that exciting, just trying to defend from the Greenskins and recover their land, boring.

So instead of revisiting the dark burrows of the dwarven halls, I decided to roll a High Elf. I wanted to keep the fantasy of the game in my mind. I tend to avoid humans at first because there’s barely any fantasy within them, besides their magic. Read the rest of this entry »

“A Skillbuilder Minute” - 10/22/08

A Skillbuilder Minute

The idea behind this is to give the readers a quick rundown of what myself and other members of the Lagwar staff are playing. I’ll be touching on particular aspects of games that I’m enjoying as well as the elements I think could use a little work.

Let’s dive right in!

This past week I picked up a copy of Call of Duty 4, which I must say is an absolutely amazing piece of work, the game runs so fluid and the graphics are as top notch as any FPS I’ve seen to date. I had played COD4 prior on Xbox360 and wasn’t too impressed with the joystick control (maybe I have stiff thumbs /shrug). What time I wasn’t busy getting acquainted with COD4 this weekend I was off adventuring in the wild world of Warhammer Online. I went into the weekend level 17. Zissou and I were both hell-bent on reaching 20 and getting our mounts by weeks end. We first thought the quickest way to accomplish this would be by running scenarios, and I admit at times scenarios can provide some astoundingly fast XP…if you’re winning. Once the winning had dried up we quickly headed out into the Chaos lands… Troll Country! I must say the Chaos Ch. 9 Public Quests were some of the most fun we had experienced thus far in the game (the loot and experience wasn’t half bad either!) I highly recommend anyone levels 18-20 to check these out. By the time Zissou and I had completed the Ch. 9 quest he had already hit 20 and was well into 21, with myself still being 40% of a level away from ditching my PF Flyers. I will likely hop on tonight and run a few scenarios to finish out the level and get my lizard mount! Look us up in game if you ever want to chat about the game or group up for some RVR, scenarios, or questing! We are playing on the Ostermark RP server.

That’ll do it for now, be sure to check back in each week for Lagwar.com’s Stonetroll Certified and Spotlight podcasts.

“I’d rather be a Harpy”

Posted by Brilen On October - 20 - 2008

Since I’ve been playing my Dark Elf Sorceress in Warhammer Online, I’ve encountered many things that I love about her and many things I don’t.  During levels 1-10, I liked how quickly I could kill other monsters with my powerful Doombolt.  Never mind Doombolt has a three second cast, it was so powerful that I could kill a monster with just a couple casts.  Now, as I am currently level 18, things have taken a change for the worst.  If I can make it through a quest while only dying once, I consider it a victory.  When my Sorceress leveled to 16, I noticed it was much harder to stay alive during a fight.  Of course, taking into consideration my light armor, I never expected to take the amount of damage I had been.  I do sound like I’m complaining about the play of my Sorceress, which, really I am not.  I enjoy playing a casting class and always have.  However, I am complaining about how weak my character is.  It could be that I’m the only one this is happening to and I have no idea how to play my career, or it could be I need to wait it out and build up my wounds.  I have decided to stick with my Sorceress and see how things progress.  I hope after level 20, I’ll be able to survive a quest without dying.  If not, I would rather be a Harpy.
