Mythic has definitely slapped a few coats of polish on the game. I just re-subbed and am absolutely loving it. oRvR runs nonstop as well as PVE dungeon runs. Plus if you're into scenarios - the new revamp has really given them a boost plus an incentive to run them.

I highly recommend anyone that was debating whether or not to come back to definitely give it a try.

For me anyway, the lag is non-existent.

It seems that they have fixed many of the lag issues as I'm hardly noticing any anymore when before I often had to turn down my video settings in large fights.

Over the last few patches there has been a lot of improvement in this aspect of the game.

Nice post. I do have a question if I may. How are the lag issues atm? Last time I logged, the lag was unbearable in oRvR.

Sorry folks. I am currently "away" with the Air Force and posted this up at around 2 am after a very long day. Horrible mistake I know. I am glad Syp could harvest some additional hits for his website though.

I will do my best not to let mistakes like that happen again.

Stay safe everyone and I will post something out as soon as I get a chance.

Yes Syp, we know who the developer of FE is, we've spoke with them a few times now. An unfortunate late night mistype for tired ole Xerb. Maybe a sign of old age? Glad someone pointed it out for correction.

Just FYI :)

Lee's ideas are not original. Many of them have been batted around on the boards for a while and despite the 'its in the pipeline' teaser, its pretty far down there. The basic things it seems folks agree with is at least a full line/lines respec when the devs 'tune' a line to the point it greatly changes its functionality or synergy with another line and a slow method of respect that takes time and money to regain AP so there cant be FotM insta respects. The latter to address points that may have been missspent due to fatfingering a key and placing points into a wrong line or to erase a few points that were spent only to find out skills in lines did not stack or otherwise interact well.

Personally, I am going to take a bit of a break till they get things sorted out and develop the game a bit more. I really enjoyed it for all the time I had placed in it but right now, it has to mature a bit and lines need to settle down. It gets a bit irritating when they dont refund AP when your time gets invalidated during the 'tuning' process with no means of recapturing any of it.

They are still debating over respecs for this game!? Wow, I'm glad I left when I did. I really wanted to like this game but just couldn't get into it. Got to sector 2 and fizzled out.

Any player arguing for no respecs are just trying to keep the advantage they have over those who have messed up in their specs. The company defending no respecs just wants your money so they see you rerolling as a good thing. IMO "because its hardcore" isnt even remotely close to a good enough reason to not have respecs and if anyone actually has a good reason by all means I'd love to hear it.

Respecs have been in discussion for a while now (almost since the game launched). Icarus (not Cryptic, btw) has been pretty open about how they are looking at options and working out what will work for the game. The last major patch (iirc) had an adjustment to faction abilities (specifically ones that you unlock by having a certain amount of faction rep). Players can still grind the faction wheel, but now you have to have the required faction to use the ability. Several players have commented that this might be a pre-cursor to a respec system, allowing people to gain abilities but requiring a certain proficiency to use them. "Limited" respecs, which I take to mean re-allocating your points spent on skills and mutations while keeping your stats locked, would then make pretty good sense. We should know for certain in the near future, since the last producer letter included respecs on the list of features that are planned, but not yet scheduled for release.

Man, it's funny that this was your topic this go 'round. My wife and I were just talking about why WoW is always my fallback game. It's because we have such a good guild and group of friends and family to play with in WoW.

When we move to new games and try them out, we never find that same type of group - so we keep searching for it but never find it unless we're in WoW.

Warhammer Online is probably my favorite MMORPG of all time, but I missed having that solid group of friends and family to play with and call home.

The new guild features sounds awesome. Cataclysm sounds awesome :)

When we move to new games and try them out, we never find that same type of group – so we keep searching for it but never find it unless we’re in WoW.

Warhammer Online is probably my favorite MMORPG of all time, but I missed having that solid group of friends and family to play with and call home.

The new guild features sounds awesome. Cataclysm sounds awesome

It's just easier that way imo, from a development standpoint that is.

If you take away fights that are based purely on skill and make the fights rely on a certain tier of gear combined with the understanding of the encounter - you've now included nearly any player in the progression.

Developers (Blizzard has almost trademarked this) have figured out that you don't want to exclude players from content. This was done a lot in the past (Naxx for example, though this was probably the final dungeon of that era for WoW anyway), and the developers would take a look at their metrics and say, "Wow, we spent X amount of dollars and resources on the creation of this encounter, and only a tiny percentage of players used it." From a development standpoint, it's just really not much bang for their buck.

But by having various sets are gear for almost any style of player, from badges and PVP tokens and honor to drops and faction, and let players advance incrementally based on their style of play versus their skill level of play, they probably find they keep a larger number of players busy. Which shows a higher return on their investment on the development of said content. Versus basing the encounters off of a players skill - where you've automatically excluded a potentially large number of players at concept.

But that leaves the old "hardcore" raiders hopping from game to game trying to find their fix.

Good read.

Hmm - I agree with your statement that people play MMO's for gear now. I think that is true, but I disagree about what caused a shift from gauging success by progression to gauging success by gear. I don't think the change came when the first "gear check" boss was introduced but is more of a byproduct of MMO popularity. Now that more than just fringe gamers play the demand for content in games is remarkable. All MMO's now constantly update their content, new bosses are added, but so are different types of challenges - crafting, achievements, etc. It used to be that in a more static MMO world progression was the best metric of success, but now progression is only good for a few months until new content is delivered.

The addition of professions and achievements in games makes progression even less valuable as a tool to measure completion of an MMO. Unfortunately now gear is the measure by which we rate players, it is the most direct way of judging a players history in the game, and I don't just mean purples I mean specific purples. As a ruler of completion gear scales, bosses simply do not.
