LAGWAR.com presents our latest contest: the LifeNet Canyon Run in the post-apocalyptic MMOFPS, Fallen Earth. This event is in support of LAGWAR’s popular LifeNet: Fallen Earth Podcast. Join us January 9th, 2010 at 4:00PM EST for a race across the canyon!
Contest details and rules
How To Enter:
Leave a comment in the comments thread of this page to let us know if you are thinking about entering. This is NOT a requirement, but it will help us estimate how many contestants we can potentially expect.
The race will begin at the North entrance to Embry Crossroads in Sector 1 and end just outside of Trader’s Flat in Sector 3. Contestants must be present 15 minutes before the race begins to re-cap the rules and verify their registration.
Event admins, Heero and Allister Bane (others to be posted shortly), will have a raid team for contestants to join and remain present in throughout the race. Simply send one of them a PM when you are ready for an invite to the raid team.
Waypoints will act as checkpoints that each contestant must pass through have been selected. Ever played Rad Racer? When contestants reach each of these waypoints, they are required to yell out LAGWAR in the Local Game Chat so that event staff will see it above the contestants head when passing the designated waypoints. 2 event staff members will be present at each waypoint to verify and document that a contestant has successfully reached and completed said waypoint when LAGWAR is yelled in Local Game Chat at the selected waypoints. (Contestants will immediately receive a PM from that event admin to confirm the contestant completed that checkpoint and can continue forward)
Waypoints (Checkpoints):
-
*Redfield (Sector 2) X=4108716 Y=4912169
*Burnside (Sector 2) X=5371428 Y=5008506
*Blaine (Sector 2) X=4854510 Y=5816736
Users should save these waypoints in their in-game waypoint interface as these will be the exact in-game locations of the event staff members who are in charge of verifying contestants have completed each checkpoint.
Also, it does not matter which order a contestant chooses to complete each of the checkpoints, or waypoints, as long as they complete all three before the race ends in Trader’s Flat.
We will have a Finish Line in place in Trader’s Flat. This is located on the North side of town where the holiday vendors were during the First Night Holiday Event. This is located on the road between the city of Trader’s Flat and the Garage just North of it.
Once a contestant has reached the Finish Line, they must yell out LAGWAR in the Local Game Chat channel to finish the race.
Rules:
*NO INTERCEPTORS ALLOWED (No exceptions) – All other vehicles allowed
*Must be at starting line 15 minutes before race start time to join event raid team
*If a contestant passes through a PVP zone that is purely done a their own discretion. Contestants are not required to PVP at anytime during this event. While it may provide a shorter therefore faster route, keep in mind you could get ganked creating extra down-time. If you feel the benefit outweighs the risk, then more power to you!
*If a player dies during the event they can pick themselves back up and keep trucking. They may still have a good chance at winning. However, if a contestant dies they are NOT supplied with any special aid. If you choose to help out another contestant who has fallen down on their luck, that is great! But keep in mind you are costing yourself time. Use your own discretion, just know that the event staff will not be providing any type of aid to fallen contestants.
*BIG TIP: Make sure you see the event staff when passing by each waypoint (checkpoint) when yelling LAGWAR. Do NOT just assume they saw you. Some waypoints may be located on a ledge under a bridge or behind a sign. HINT, HINT!

- White Dwarf Beard – Beard option for Dwarfs
- Shroud of Imrathepis – Mummy looking wrap that regenerates minor wounds
- Snorri’s Spikes – Spike Mohawk option for Dwarf Slayers

I’d like to do the race, but I don’t believe this…
*NO INTERCEPTORS ALLOWED (No exceptions) – All other vehicles allowed
Can be enforced. Whats keeping people from swaping out to a interceptor at a garage?

Hi Aryll,
Can the no interceptors policy be enforced 100% of the time? Of course not. But it can be enforced enough to affect anyone who tries to break it.
If someone tries to use an interceptor, then they will have to change out vehicles at the garage somewhere beyond the starting point (admins will be watching the garage where the race starts). So if someone does run to another garage and trade out for their interceptor, they’ve already killed X amount of time by doing so.
Now, a checkpoint is coming up, they cannot show up at the waypoint driving an interceptor cause they’d be disqualified. So they have to run to a garage and trade out vehicles then go to the waypoint. That’s more time killed.
Finally, Heero selected waypoint locations that you cannot reach with an interceptor, or at least that’s my understanding of how he did it. Some of these waypoints are in some not-so-obvious locations that will take some looking and creativity to find the event admin to complete that checkpoint.
Those who try to reach these checkpoints with an interceptor are in for a big surprise
Heero can provide some additional details on his waypoint selection and train of thought behind combatting the no interceptor policy.
Thanks for your concern and we hope to see you there on Saturday!

Kind of a delayed responce but…
The race was fun despite the low turn out. If you guys do another race count me in, by then I’ll have my machinegun packing dune buggy built and ready to rumble. =) When are you guys going to do another Lifenet broadcast?

Hi Aryll,
Thanks for participating. The prizes were “niche” items so I honestly didn’t expect many people to show up as they weren’t something I would consider the majority of players were interested in. Though stuff like that is pretty cool imo : )
We do the podcast every Saturday night @ 10pm EST. You can find all the latest shows that are available for download @ http://lagwar.com/fallenearth or iTunes.
The shows eventually get posted up on the main LAGWAR page, but it’s usually delayed so we don’t hog up space on the main page. You can find the latest shows @ http://lagwar.com/fallenearth. The live recordings are done on Saturdays @ 10PM EST and the downloadable MP3’s are posted every Sunday.
Thanks!
